NFL Media Coverage
The National Football League (NFL) is the most popular American football association established by eleven American football teams in 1920. It was then named as the American Professional Football Association which was changed only after two years in 1922 to the National Football League.
NFL consists of 32 football teams from the USA and is divided into two conferences, the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). Each conference has 16 teams as it is divided into four groups, each having four teams. The NFL season starts in September and ends in December or January with the championship game called Super Bowl.
The NFL is considered to be the most popular sport league all over the world having great number of fans and the audience. Its seasons get high television coverage and audience each year. It is estimated that almost 80 to 90 million Americans watch the Super Bowl championship at any given moment every year.
The NFL has also very high Nielsen television ratings around 40. it is acknowledged that the NFL Super Bowl has an average audience of around 100 million most of whom are Americans but NFL aims to increase this number and hopes to get the global viewer ship of one billion for its games. The NFL games are so much popular that many television networks go for the original programming of the game in order to earn more profit because of the large number of audience.
The broadcasting rights of NFL are very expensive because of its popularity. Super Bowl of NFL holds the status of most watched annual show and it is among the top ten television programs according to Nielsen media research. The game attracts great number of commercials from many companies each year. The NFL games are aired currently on five networks including Fox, ESPN, CBS, NBC and the NFL Network (a subsidiary owned by NFL itself).
If we talk about radio, then each NFL team has its own network and anchors. The NFL manages a contract with Sirius Satellite Radio which provides the entire game coverage, news, analysis etc. Broadcasts through internet radio streaming are also available for the NFL games from a subscription service called Field Pass.
